- Studied a ton today at Starbucks with Andrea and Jerome; covered the CNS and PNS and all the respective anatomy and physiology involved. I need to memorize the sodium/potassium exchange pump for action potential for the PNS and get all the steps in my head by exam time Thursday.
- Doctor's appointment on Wednesday, followed by another study session. Crimson tsunami started today... thank the gods it's not a pelvic exam.
- Eight days before the election, and I'm feeling anxious about it. It upsets me to no end that my parents are supporting McCain/Palin because they're white. After eight years of blasting Bush 43, preceded by 12 years of blasting Regan and Bush 41, you'd think that they'd be elated that Obama/Biden are leading the polls. As Joe Biden would say, God love them, but this really bugs the crap out of me. If Obama was a white man, they'd love him and reminisce about JFK and Bill Clinton all over again, but the truth is sad, and right now it's keeping me away from visiting until the heat of the election is over. We agreed not to talk politics, but with the election coming up it's a topic you can't avoid. Politics with my parents has always been touchy anyway. It was hard for me at 18, when I decided I held a more Liberterian philosophy compared to my parents' Democratic outlook, and three elections later I've landed in the middle as a moderate or Independent, due to being socially liberal and economically conservative. Even though I support a Democrat this election, they can't because OMG it wasn't Hillary! I love you Mom and Dad, no matter what, but the racist PUMA in you needs to be kept away from my ears and my kids.
- My parent's views aren't unexpected, if you think about their background... they grew up in Asia, and were borne of aristocratic rich Europeans and Filipinos. It's not an excuse for their attitude I know, it's more of a cultural thing for them, one I wish I could erase. You will find that the majority of Asians don't really mind African American people, but heavens forbid that you marry them or let them be your boss. They'll get all gansta on you and ghettofy the neighborhood! *sarcasm* My own children are biracial, and most of America is the product of mixed heritage... with the globalization of the world thanks to the Internet, hopefully in a generation or two when my kids are adults, racism will be a thing of the past.
